Hi! We’re the Walls Family, and we’re thrilled to introduce ourselves as the new owners of Horse Fly Net.
Our journey began unexpectedly. While caring for an injured horse at a university equine center, we found ourselves passing the time by flipping through the same magazine again and again. On the very last page, an ad caught our eye—an equine business for sale. With both of us having an entrepreneurial spirit tucked away for years, we decided to make the call.
And here we are today.
We’re excited to connect with the equine and agricultural community and to continue offering products that help make life with Mother Nature a little more comfortable for the animals we love.
We look forward to taking Horse Fly Net to the next level and are grateful to have you along for the ride.
Sun and bugs are a constant problem for run-in sheds and horse barns that face the sun at any point during the day. About ten years ago, inventor Karleen Hubley set out to solve this issue and make her horses more comfortable. She experimented with hanging different types and lengths of material from the shed openings to create shade. After much trial and error, she discovered a fabric — and it solved the problem.
The material is a heat-sealed, vinyl-coated polyester built to withstand harsh weather and wind, while remaining easy to install. At first, Karleen’s horses were cautious of the unfamiliar addition to their shelter. However, they quickly learned that walking through the fabric curtain led them to their food, hay, water, and salt block. They soon realized that brushing through the net also helped remove flies from their backs and faces. They found it cooler behind the net and often stayed there until the sun shifted to another side of the shed.
Because the net included grommets on all four sides, it was simple to hang it from the support beam in the shed opening using basic 3-inch round hooks. Since creating this solution, Karleen has continued to use her invention to provide reliable relief from sun and insects for the horses in her care.
